Winnipeg Transit drivers face escalating violence, says union
Transit drivers in Winnipeg are facing an increasing number of violent assaults on the job, says the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 1505.
In 2015 alone there were approximately 60 assaults against transit operators in the city, an increase of 54 per cent, said ATU.
“It ranges from punching, spitting, slapping, kicking, weapons, coffee thrown at them, beer cans, you name it,” said John Callahan, president of ATU Local 1505.

New Rules at Pedestrian Crossovers and School Crossings in Ontario
As of Jan. 1, a new law in Ontario indicates drivers and cyclists must now stop and yield the whole pedestrian crossover until the person is completely off the roadway.
This rule also applies at school crossings where there is a crossing guard holding a stop sign. However, the new law does not apply at crosswalks, unless a school crossing guard is present.

Today, the Honourable Diane Lebouthillier, P.C., M.P., Minister of National Revenue, announced she has waived reporting requirements for labour organizations and labour trusts, arising from Bill C-377, An Act to amend the Income Tax Act (requirements for labour organizations), for fiscal periods starting on December 31, 2015 and through 2016.

Wednesday, October 21, 2015, ATU Local 107 and ATU Canada presented McMaster student, Godfrey Coutto, with a donation as a token of our appreciation for his wonderful act of compassion. The sum of $2000.00 was proudly given to Coutto, to put towards his education.
Hamilton LRT announcement will be for a shorter line
The province is expected to make a light rail transit (LRT) announcement at 8 a.m. on Tuesday morning, but sources say it will be for a shorter route than the city initially proposed.
The line, which was originally supposed to be 13.5 kilometres from McMaster University to Eastgate Square, will likely stop at the former City Motor Hotel property at 55 Queenston Rd, two sources have told CBC Hamilton. That would mean the planned route would be about 11.3 kilometres.
