Metrolinx: Transparency and Accountability Go Hand in Hand

TORONTO, May 11, 2016 /CNW/ – ATU Canada labour leaders across the GTA are expressing their disappointment over not being invited or included in the recently announced Metrolinx meeting that took place in Toronto on April 27th 2016.

Toronto City TV reported that a meeting with Metrolinx and TTC senior management staff had taken place on that day.

This meeting opened an important and overdue dialogue with senior transit management staff, unfortunately for that meeting no invitation was extended to any of the ATU Canada labour leaders who represent the thousands of transit workers directly impacted by this massive transit initiative within the province.

ATU Canada encourages donations for people of Fort McMurray

The Canadian Red Cross has mobilized to help the people affected by wildfires in Alberta. Massive wildfires have triggered the largest fire-related evacuation in Alberta’s history, and due to high temperatures and wind the situation has the potential to become more serious. 12 communities, including Fort McMurray, are currently impacted by the fires, which have damaged and destroyed homes and property.

When people evacuated their communities, they left not knowing if they would have homes to return to. Evacuated residents find themselves in need of a place to stay, food, water and basic supplies.

Canadians looking to help can make a donation to the Alberta Fires Appeal, which will help us deliver assistance to those who need it.

Two people — one of whom was a 46-year-old uniformed bus driver who had just finished a shift — were allegedly punched and kicked by a pair of teen boys at the bus terminal Thursday night. The teens were arrested and are expected to appear in court at a later date.

Several teens attack bus driver at Southdale, inflict potentially ‘life-altering’ head injuries

Several teenagers assaulted a Metro Transit bus driver in a noontime attack at the Southdale stop in Edina, leaving their victim with potentially “life-altering” head injuries, authorities said.

A juvenile among the several suspects questioned has been arrested in connection with the attack, which occurred Thursday, Metro Transit spokesman Howie Padilla said Saturday night.

Padilla described the 22-year Metro Transit veteran driver as suffering “very serious” injuries. While declining to be specific, Padilla did say, “I think they had the potential to be life-altering.”
